Carolyn and Thurston County Commissioner Tye Menser

Hello Friends!

Carolyn_Cox_Yard_Sign_2021.jpg

It has been my great honor to serve you on the Lacey City Council, and I'm excited to run for another term because we still have lots of work to do!

Over the past seven years, Lacey has experienced significant changes and growth. We have become the county's biggest and most diverse city, created the award-winning Lacey Maker Space, and doubled the size and services of the Lacey Veterans Hub. We have risen to address the challenges of homelessness and climate change while utilizing all available tools to incentivize affordable housing. Additionally, establishing the Commission on Equity and approving new policies have made Lacey more welcoming and accessible. I want to thank everyone for their past support and ask for your help for one more term.

While we have accomplished much, many challenges remain. If re-elected, I will focus on several key areas: ensuring housing is available for all income levels, developing solutions for homelessness—including increased mental health and addiction treatment options—and planning to accommodate growth while maintaining Lacey's beauty and livability. I aim to help residents make their homes and vehicles more energy-efficient and foster regional cooperation and collaboration. Thank you for believing in me. With your help, we will guide Lacey into a bright future for all.

Carolyn and Governor Bob Ferguson

Housing

There is no more pressing need than housing that Lacey residents can afford. We have a housing shortage for all income levels, which contributes to people being priced out of the housing market.

Why I'm Running Again

As I reflect on my journey in public service, I am deeply honored to share that I am currently serving my eighth year on the Lacey City Council. My unwavering commitment to community engagement has been a driving force throughout my career, demonstrated by my active participation in various boards, commissions, and leadership roles. These experiences have shaped my understanding of local governance and reinforced my dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve.

In 2021, I had the privilege of chairing the Intercity Transit Authority, a role I will proudly resume in 2025. My leadership journey also includes serving as the past chair of the Thurston Regional Housing Council from 2022 to 2023, where I worked to address critical housing needs in our region. Currently, I serve as the vice chair of the Thurston Regional Planning Council, contributing to our community's long-term planning and development.

Beyond these roles, I am on the LOTT Clean Water Alliance Board of Directors, ensuring sustainable water management for our region. I also represent Lacey as an alternate on the Thurston Climate Mitigation Collaborative, advocating for environmental stewardship. My commitment to community well-being extends to my service on the Thurston Thrives Executive Board, where I help advance initiatives that promote health, equity, and prosperity. Additionally, I serve as the board secretary for Interfaith Works, supporting their mission to address homelessness and poverty. And in my own neighborhood, I serve as president of the Rainier Park Owners Association Board of Directors.

My passion for public service and community engagement began long before my time on the City Council. I served for four years on the Lacey Planning Commission, including a year as chair and two as vice chair, where I gained invaluable insights into land use and community development. I also spent three years on the Thurston County Boundary Review Board, further deepening my understanding of the complexities of local governance.

Throughout my career, I have always believed in the power of good government and the importance of giving back to the community. With a professional background spanning 27 years as a reporter and editor for five daily newspapers, nearly six years in public relations for the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, and a decade as a public information officer for the Washington Department of Health, I bring a wealth of experience in communication, collaboration, and public engagement to my work in public service. Retiring in November 2017 allowed me to dedicate myself fully to these community roles, and I remain steadfast in my commitment to fostering a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable future for the place I am proud to call home.

It's been the honor of my life to serve you for the last eight years, and I once again ask for your vote and support as I seek re-election to the Lacey City Council.

Together, we can continue to build a community that reflects our shared values and aspirations.
